Terms of Service
Last updated: September 9, 2026
1. The agreement
Blue Rush is a website for university students that introduces them to each other in two ways: Blue Rush, for friends, and Red Rush, for companions. These Terms govern your use of Blue Rush. You accept them when you create an account, and the time of acceptance is recorded with your profile. If you do not accept them, do not create an account.
Blue Rush is operated independently. It is not run by, endorsed by, or affiliated with any University. It uses no university name, logo, seal, or mark as its own.
2. Who may use Blue Rush
- You must hold an email address at a campus listed as active in the Blue Rush campus registry. Today the registry holds the University of Oklahoma (ou.edu) and Oklahoma State University (okstate.edu). Registration with any other address is refused by the database.
- You must be at least 13 years old. The sign-up flow refuses a birth date younger than that.
- One account per person. The account must describe you: your name, your photos, your answers.
- You sign in with a code sent to your campus email and typed into the site. There are no passwords and no sign-in links.
3. Age groups
Your birth date is entered once and cannot be changed afterward. It decides your age group. Users under 18 may use Blue Rush only and are matched only with other users under 18. Users 18 and older are matched only with users 18 and older. The two groups never mix, in any rush, in matching, in conversations, or in what one person can see of another. This is enforced in the database itself, not only in the interface. Entering a false birth date is a breach of these Terms and grounds for removal.
Matching also stays within your own campus. Two campuses are never matched with each other.
4. Blue Rush and Red Rush
- Blue Rush matches you as friends. It is open to every eligible user. A user under 18 holds a Blue Rush membership and nothing else; the database refuses any other membership for a minor.
- Red Rush matches you as companions. It requires that you are 18 or older and that you hold the Red Tick described in section 5.
- You may hold either membership or both and may turn each on or off from your Profile. A membership that is off receives no matches in that rush.
5. The Red Tick
To enter Red Rush you submit a photo of a government identity document and a live selfie captured by your camera in the browser. These are collected only to verify that you are 18 or older and that you are you. Before you upload anything, a plain-language screen states exactly what is collected, why, that a person reviews it, and that both files are deleted the instant a decision is made; you must check a box to give your explicit consent, and the time of that consent is recorded with your submission. Both files are uploaded to a private storage area that no signed-in account can read back, including yours. A human reviewer views the pair through short-lived server links and decides: approved or declined.
The moment a decision is recorded, whichever way it goes, both files are deleted. The deletion happens first; if the files cannot be deleted, no decision is recorded. After a decision, only the decision itself, its timestamps, and the identity of the reviewer are kept. An approved decision shows on your profile as a gold badge. Blue Rush may revoke the Red Tick, and a revoked Tick closes Red Rush to you until a new submission is approved. One submission may be pending at a time. Users under 18 cannot submit.
6. How matches are made
- Each day at 5 PM Central Time, each active membership receives up to three matches, or up to two in each room for members who hold both. There is no browsing, no search, no directory, and no feed. The daily matches are the whole of what you can see.
- A membership receives matches only when your profile is complete for that rush: the survey questions for that rush answered, at least one photo, and, for Red Rush, an approved Red Tick.
- Every match shows compatibility percentages by dimension, computed from the survey answers both people gave. Blue Rush shows five: Recreation, Campus life, Taste, Battery and Direction. Red Rush shows five of its own: First look, Spark, Rhythm, Values and Long game. Matches are mutual: if you are shown someone, they are shown you the same day. The pair marked HIGH is the strongest available to you in your own pool that day. A pair is not shown again during the current matching cycle, and a pair that opened a chat is not shown again at all; you never see the same person twice in one day across both rushes.
- Percentages are a computation over stated answers. They describe closeness of self-descriptions and, in Red Rush, stated physical preferences. They are not a statement by Blue Rush about any person's character, safety, or suitability.
- A day may deliver fewer matches than the room allows when fewer eligible people exist. Blue Rush never pads the day with invented or repeated people.
7. Conversations
- You may open a conversation with any of your current matches. No mutual acceptance is required. A conversation belongs to the rush whose match opened it.
- Messages are text only, between 1 and 2,000 characters. Photos, files, and calls are not offered inside Blue Rush.
- You may send at most 20 messages per minute. The limit is enforced by the database.
- Leaving a conversation hides it for you only. The other person is not told. Messaging that person again from their match reopens it.
- You are responsible for what you send. What you share with another person is theirs to keep, including after you delete your account.
8. Your content
- You may upload up to four photos. Photos live in private storage and are shown only through links that expire after one hour, only to you, your current matches, and people you are in conversation with, and never across a block.
- You keep ownership of your photos, your bio, your answers, and your messages. You grant Blue Rush permission to store them and to show them to the people these Terms say may see them, for as long as your account exists.
- Your username is unique across Blue Rush, 3 to 20 characters of letters, numbers, and the _ symbol, stored in lowercase. Certain names are reserved. You may change it from your Profile.
9. Conduct you agree to avoid
- Entering a false birth date, or helping anyone cross the age wall.
- Creating more than one account, an account for another person, or an account with another person's photos or identity.
- Submitting a document or selfie that is not yours, or is altered.
- Harassment, threats, hate, or sexual messages to a person who has not welcomed them.
- Posting or sending sexual content involving a minor, or soliciting a minor in any way.
- Using Blue Rush to sell, advertise, recruit, or collect personal data.
- Automating access, scraping, probing the database, or attempting to read data the interface does not show you.
- Any use that breaks the law of the United States or the State of Oklahoma.
10. Blocking, reporting, and enforcement
- Block is available on every match and in every conversation. A block is permanent and works in both directions: the two of you disappear from each other everywhere, and neither can be matched with or message the other again. A block cannot be undone.
- Report is available in the same places. You choose a reason (fake profile, harassment, inappropriate content, seems underage, something else) and may add details. A human reads every report. Reports are kept for safety review and survive the deletion of the reported account, with that account's identity removed.
- Blue Rush may suspend an account. A suspended account cannot sign in and is removed from every matching pool. Suspension is reversible by Blue Rush. Blue Rush may also delete an account outright, and may grant or revoke the Red Tick.
- Every enforcement action is written to a log that records who acted, what was done, to whom, and when. That log cannot be edited or deleted, by anyone.
- Blue Rush may act on a report without notice and without a hearing. A suspended person may write to hello@thebluerush.com to ask for a review.
11. Deleting your account
You may delete your account at any time from Settings by typing DELETE. Deletion is immediate and permanent. It removes your sign-in identity, profile, photos, survey answers, memberships, matches, conversations and messages on both sides, notifications, push subscriptions, blocks you made, and any pending Red Tick submission and its files. What remains afterward is described in the Privacy Policy.
12. Availability and warranties
- Blue Rush is provided free of charge and as is. Features may change or be withdrawn, a day's matches may arrive late or not at all, and the service may be unavailable at times.
- To the extent the law allows, Blue Rush makes no warranty about the service, the people you meet through it, or the accuracy of any answer another person gives. Other users are not vetted beyond what these Terms describe: a campus email for everyone, and for Red Rush, a human review of an identity document and a selfie.
- To the extent the law allows, Blue Rush is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the service or from any meeting or communication with another user. Meeting people carries real judgment. Meet in public first.
13. Changes to these Terms
Blue Rush may revise these Terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. Continuing to use Blue Rush after a change is acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are brought in the courts located in Oklahoma.
